Distinguished Scholar Teacher Lecture: Valentine Hacquard

College of Arts and Humanities | Linguistics | Maryland Language Science Center | Philosophy Wednesday, October 21, 2026 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm Bioscience Research Building, 1103

October 21, we celebrate the induction of Valentine Hacquard to the ranks of UMD Distinguished Scholar Teachers (DST), with a lecture from Valentine herself titled "Who Wants to Know? How Children Figure Out What Words and People Mean." This will be followed by a reception in the adjoining atrium.

The DST award honors members of the Maryland faculty – this year six total, across the university – who "have demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement as well as outstanding accomplishments as teachers, serv[ing] as models of excellence for the faculty of a top research university."
