LSLT - Lorna Quandt / Movement, Language, and the Brain

Linguistics Thursday, March 14, 2024 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm H. J. Patterson Hall

Thursday March 14, the LSLT has Lorna Quandt, Associate Professor at Gallaudet University in its Educational Neuroscience Program, Science Director of its Motion Light Lab, and leader of the Action and Brain Lab.

In this talk, I will start with my work from 2012, and reflect upon how the field has changed over the years, and how my research agenda has adapted to take on new questions and fields of inquiry. I will touch on gesture, language, and visual perception as I consider how experience with signed language changes our perceptual and cognitive functioning. I will demonstrate multiple ways that my recent work has approached these questions using behavioral science and EEG, as well as the burning questions I hope to tackle soon.
