Alex to University of Chicago!

June 29, 2026 Linguistics

A tv screen displaying a portrait of a young woman, that same woman standing to the left of it, receiving the congratulations of her advisor, Professor Ellen Lau, who stands to the right of the screen, smiling warmly.

Assistant Instructional Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics.

Three cheers for Alex Krauska, who is to be Assistant Instructional Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics at the University of Chicago

Alex came to Maryland from Northwestern, where she worked with Masaya Yoshida *06. In 2024 she wrote her dissertation, A World without Words: A Non-Lexicalist Framework for Psycho- and Neuro-Linguistics, under the supervision of Ellen Lau *09, and defended it to a committee also including Dave Embick, Naomi Feldman, Alexander Williams and Bob Slevc. Since then Alex has been in a postdoctoral research position at UMass Amherst, working with Shota Momma *16. And now she heads back to Chicago, joining Craig Thorborn *23, who has been Assistant Instructional Professor at Chicago since 2025.

It has been very Terrapin journey and we are delighted with the next chapter!
