Young children's conceptions of knowledge, from 2017 alum Rachel Dudley, is now out in Philosophy Compass1747-9991/). Rachel asks how evidence from child development might bear on whether the concept of knowledge has as a constituent the concept of belief. Based both on new findings and a contextualization of older findings, she argues for a picture of development whereby core competence with belief and knowledge concepts emerges much earlier than previously thought (in the first or second year of life), leaving us with no clear evidence that knowledge attributions emerge earlier than belief attributions.
