Sigwan tenured at Concordia

May 25, 2026 Linguistics

A table covered with polka-dotted balloons in different colors, and just barely visible through them: the smiling face of PhD student Sigwan Thivierge

Associate Professor of Linguistics and First Peoples Studies.

Big congratulations to Sigwan Thivierge, from the SMAART PhD Class of 2021, who is now tenured as an Associate Professor at Concordia University, in the Departments of Linguistics and First Peoples Studies. Sigwan was hired as Assistant Professor in 2021, after successfully defending her UMD dissertation, "Phasehood and Phi-intervention", to a committee comprising Maria Polinsky and Omer Preminger as Chairs, plus Juan and Alexander, with Kira Gor representing the Dean of the Graduate School.
