Science and Society via Film: Arrival

Linguistics | Maryland Language Science Center Tuesday, February 15, 2022 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center, 2208

As part of the course Science & Society Via Film, Juan Uriagereka (LING, SLLC) is hosting a screening and discussion of Arrival, a film about "a linguistics professor [who] gets to live in a mansion by a lake," as Juan puts it, and learns to converse with seven-legged squid-like extraterrestrial creatures. Here is a close reading of the fictional linguist's office.
